Valley Gal Special: JackieMeet Jackie, a model currently working with Bella Agency. I was lucky enough to meet this incredibly kind and fun woman during a lunch date with my mother and a few friends at Neiman Marcus. Often times, designers will send models into this area to showcase their designs; lucky for me, the day I met Jackie was one of those times. After walking around the room to show off her outfit, I asked her if I could take some pictures of her and she was more than willing to get in on this spontaneous photo shoot! Even more, she sent me her email so that Serena and I could ask her questions about her career! If you would like to know a little more about who Jackie is, what she does, and the designer she was modeling for that particular day, scroll down!!! The Interview: How did you get involved in modeling? "My parents sent me to a 'finishing and modeling school' in Nebraska, which is where I learned a ton of useful tips about being 'proper' and it really helped with my confidence. I then became an instructor there, until I finished college, then an agent came to Nebraska to scout and they chose me to come to NYC and try it out. I signed with IMG and then with Wilhelmina models and have worked with them for 12 years. I am currently with Bella Agency." What do you love about your particular profession? "I love that you get to meet so many fascinating people and designers, and of course you get to wear so many amazing clothes!" What can make modeling more difficult and what do you do to overcome those difficulties? "Sometimes it's hard to walk into a casting or go-see ( basically a model's job interview) and see all the girls that look a lot like you and you then wonder, 'why would they pick me?' Those days are tough; however, you have to think with a positive and assertive mind. I know I have booked jobs because I smiled at the casting director, or said something funny. It's all the luck of the draw, and with anything in life, if you can go in and prove to them that you really want the job and are willing to work hard for them, you just may surprise yourself and book many jobs!!!" What has been one of the best experiences you've had modeling? "The traveling; I have been to Japan, Hong Kong, Mexico, California and many more places! So fun!" Who has been your favorite designer to work with? "I have many favorites; I love Derek Lam, and Kaufman Franco. I would say my number one favorite is Maria Cornejo for Zero. She is so inspiring and down to earth and cool!!" What are your favorite stores to shop at and why? "I love to window shop at Bergdorf's, to go in there is so cool. Barneys is really cool for newer designers and awesome fashion ideas. I really like to shop at Zara, Club Monaco, Bird. These places I can go and get great fashion trends, but also classic items that can stay in your wardrobe for a longer time." Your favorite trends for fall right now? "I love all the tribal out there, it's so cool! Ponchos and the cardigans paired with skirts or leather pants. The black and white layering is so classic, but is so crisp and clean. (It) really makes me happy. The chunky sweaters, layered with flowy tunics and skinny pants and booties are my go-to outfits. The florals make you feel so girlie, but can also be so edgy paired with a motorcycle jacket." Go-to makeup brand? "Nars for their color palette and Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer." What advice you do have to give to girls who may want to take up this profession (or just girls in general)? "I believe the advice would be the same for all professions; find something you are passionate about and stick with it, not too many things come easy the first try. Perseverance is always the key and also to think ahead and know when to change or when to move on to something else. Sometimes you don't want to settle but you may have to so you can move into a place where you really want to be taken seriously. Everything takes time and patience and a great smile on your face never hurts!!" If you have gotten a chance to look at the site, you will see that our big push is the idea of this "Valley Gal" who emanates particular qualities that make other people look up to her, make her different, confident, etc... So, we would like to ask who do you see as a Valley Gal? "I see a Valley Gal as someone whom is confident, positive, energetic, a leader on her own. Someone who makes her own path and stands on her own and helps people along the way. A few come to mind: Stella McCartney , Anna Wintour , Angelina Jolie , Madonna, Audrey Hepburn, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Obama, Kate Middleton. These women inspire me to be bold, confident, mature, funny, beautiful, strong and happy." Want to know who Jackie is wearing? His name is Dale Dressin and he's so nice and so awesome!
